Chapter 2: Partners
The sun had already gone down when Lawrence opened the balcony door. There were two chairs out there, so he grabbed one and brought it in. The girl was already sitting in the chair that was inside, and Lawrence brought his own close, facing her, and sat down. "There's one thing I need to say before we continue," he said.
She looked at him expectantly, but said nothing.
"If I discover that you have misrepresented the terms of this contract in any way, I reserve the right to dissolve it." That way, he figured, he would have his bases covered. The girl didn't seem like an untrustworthy person, but Lawrence always prepared for the worst, when he could.
"That seems acceptable," the girl replied after a short pause.
"Alright, now that we have a deal--"
"Just a second," the girl interrupted. "I would prefer to have this in writing."
Lawrence frowned in confusion. "A written contract is kind of a strange choice for activity outside of the law."
